Biography

James first studied theatre at the BRIT School and went on to gain a PCGE from Manchester Metropolitan University (2000) and an MA in Contemporary Performance at Brunel University (2006).  James spent the first six years of his career as the Director of Performing Arts at an inner-city secondary school in London.

James has also trained on The King's Head Young Director's Scheme; with Rosemary Brandt and Tom Wright through Living Pictures; and is a member of the Young Vic Genesis Directors' Scheme.

James’ recent directing credits include Homework (Jack Studio Theatre), There Was an Old Woman (Waterloo East Theatre), Miracle (Hen & Chickens), Comedy of Errors (The Scoop), Reverie (Pleasance Dome), The Government Inspector (Lost Theatre), The Invitation (Theatre 503), Mutiny (Latutude Theatre Arena), Miss Julie (King's Head Theatre), Nowhere Man (Etcetera Theatre), Welcome to Luketia (King's Head Theatre), Presently (Baron’s Court Theatre), Carve (Tristan Bates Theatre), The Temp (Baron’s Court Theatre), The Sperm Monologues (Edinburgh Festival - E4 Udderbelly – Time Out Critic’s Choice) and The Atlantic Project (Canal Café).

Assistant directing credits include The Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night & The Tempest (Royal Shakespeare Company), The 39 Steps (Criterion Theatre), Twelfth Night (Lost Theatre),  The State We're In (Assembly Rooms), Shooting Clouds (Union Theatre), Romeo and Juliet (Middle Temple Hall), Grand Slam (King’s Head Theatre) and Mr Carpenter (NAAA Festival – Soho Theatre).

James is a professional member of Equity & the Directors' Guild of Great Britain (DGGB).
